Every time I use light NCP thread (1011 and white) I get blotches. Be it on an underwrap with no color Preserver, or as the background on a large butt wrap with color preserver. It drives me nuts.

Does anyone else have this problem? Since it happens to wraps done with and without CP, I do not think this is the problem. I cannot figure it out, except to blame the NCP threads. I have limited use with NCP threads, but do not have this problem with Nylon at all - and that's all I use for guide wraps and as teh main threads in a butt wrap.

The onl reason I use the lighte NCP threads as the background and not regular Nylon with CP, is that even with the CP applied to teh Nylon you can still see the threads underneath. This last statement is based on what I have seen on other's rods, not based on my own experiance. Is it possible for Nylon and CP to equal teh opaqueness as NCP and CP (without blotches)?

Billy; You might try a coat of Flex Coat Light instead of the CP and see if that doesn't stop the problem...Jim

Umph! Could it be because of uneven penetration of the finish? Are you using a quick penetrating, thin viscosity finish like the U-40, LS Supreme or the high build like classic? I would try the thinner finish to seal the threads for the first coat like a CP and see what happens.

CP, then Classic. I'll take some close up photos (you know how close I can get!!) and show you. The CP penetrated the Nylon Maroon tread without any blotches, but the NCP threads came out spotty. Probably the last time I use light threads for a background as a result, plus a black background looks better to me (of course I feel this way 8 hours of wrapping later)

You should re-read the RodMaker article on CP application. If I remember right, you use 1 flood coat making sure that all the tread has that wet look. Was having trouble with lavender varigated thread, until, I read the article, blotches no more!
