Does anyone have any experience using the Seaguide Fly Snake Guide Sets they sell on the NFC and ARW sites? I'm planning to use them on a 5wt build and they seem competitively priced and come in several colors.

They most likely come out of the same factory as the fly guide sets sold by a half dozen other companies.

I can assure you they do not come out of the same factory as others or sold by anyone else. They are however used by most of the US based fly factories in the US including Orvis, Scott, Winston, Edge, Thomas and Thomas as well as others.

They most be nice guides indeed considering many listed above including NFC/Edge used to use Snake Brand guides, a long known excellent guide.

Just to clarify Edge still uses the Snake Brand guides on the Edge rods and our stripping guides. The others use SeaGuide snake guides as well as G. Loomis and mostly our stripping guides.

Rick,

Thanks for providing some background information on your guides. I did not know you provided guides to those high end rod makers. What would you say, sets YOUR guides apart from the competition? Is it the finish, form factor, materials, etc.?

Kind regards,

Ed

SeaGuide are high quality guides and are not some generic offering. As stated above by the Rick, they are used by many OEMs.

There is a nice write up on SeaGuide guides at Hook and Hackle:

Thanks for sharing that write up on Hook and Hackle. The "Adaman" coating on the guides sounds like "Adamantium" which is the mythical metal in Marvel comic books that Captain America's shield is made from.:-)

Maybe that's where they got the name from!

Based on the Hook & Hackle writeup, I bought the Seaguide guides for an NFC 8wt fly rod. I can attest that the quality is excellent; the feet require no- or only minimal dressing and the wire surface is smooth. For some reason, they also were much easier to align on the rod than other guides. The quality note applies both to the snake guides and strippers with silicon nitride insert. Very nice guides.
