Reels "wobbling" when using Fuji ECSM16 seat with KSKSS/ASH16 hoods

I have recently run into a problem with reels wobbling when using a Fuji ECSM16 seat and a KSKSS/ASH16 hood. The hood screws down all the way before fully securing the reel feet. It is not enough to have the reel totally come out of the seat, but enough to be annoying and unacceptable.
I cant be the first builder to stumble upon this but didnt have a ton of luck searching - can anyone out there recommend a solution? It is not every reel (even same manufacturer) and each seat/hood combo has different levels of "play" with each reel. ETA: I just sanded down the bottom edge of a KSKSS/ASH hood and now it fits tight. Barely any material removed. Looks like this is another good option now. Thanks! Edited 1 time(s). I am an ECS man and no, I have never had this problem.
What brand reel? Daiwa, Shimano, and Lew's and rock solid. From small bfs to round reels. Is it one particular seat or many? Very odd. Re: Reels "wobbling" when using Fuji ECSM16 seat with KSKSS/ASH16 hoods

Multiple reel seats and hoods and multiple manufacturers. Shimano, Daiwa, Abu Garcia REVOs, Kistler all have varying levels of play. Some reels have no play on one seat but noticable play on another. Re: Reels "wobbling" when using Fuji ECSM16 seat with KSKSS/ASH16 hoods

Glue a strip or rubber gasket material to the bottom of the reel foot, nobody will ever know it's there. All my reels fit my reel seats perfectly with no wobble, Varied Lews, Daiwa, Shimano. Have you measured the reel foot lengths to see if they are all the same. Fuji ESCM and clones, Wiebe and the Castaway seats used. Thanks. I understand there are a myriad of options for getting the reel foot to be secure. A strip of electrical tape around the foot does the trick. I was hoping there is something I am missing about this whole situation as I would normally expect Fuji parts to play nice with each other. The same Fuji KSKSS hood on a similar Forecast seat has no issues. And using a KDPS hood on the ECSM seat (obviously) has no issues. Same thing happened to me on my father in laws spinning build. He wanted the bigger Fuji TCH NVSS spinning reel seat/grip. (Size 17) His size 2500 reel wiggled a little. I used a small plastic shim and it’s fine now. Can’t see it either. I learned my lesson. TCH size 17 too big for the size of reels we use. I always get the size 15 TCH seats when I order them. Wrong hood for the reel seat. That hood is for spinning reel setups. Re: Reels "wobbling" when using Fuji ECSM16 seat with KSKSS/ASH16 hoods

Thanks John. Didnt realize there were reel hood/seat specific compatibilities for the different size 16 Fuji components.
Just looked through the Anglers Resource catalog and see the very handy chart I was previously unaware of. Looks like I'll be using forecast exposed blank seats and kskss/ash hoods to get the look I want from now on. ETA: I just sanded down the bottom edge of a KSKSS/ASH hood and now it fits tight. Sanding down the hood a little is a great idea! The ECSM reel seat has a longer reel base than other reel seats and the KSKSS hood has a wider and deeper reel foot slot than the normal hood that comes with the ECSM seat. The hood stop on the ECSM doesn’t allow a KSKSS hood to fully engage the reel foot. Thus sanding down the front of the hood allowed the hood to fully tighten down on the reel foot. Obviously it didn’t take much. Thanks for the tip. Even an old dog can learn new tricks.

Date: October 21, 2024 01:16PM I just really like the aesthetics of the graphite hood and the larger diameter carbon hood cover on that reel seat. Glad the modification was as simple as that.
