In search of triangle/flat-topped tapered EVA butt grips

I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. For Slow Pitch Jigging (SPJ) rods, I am looking for tapered butt grips with a flat top. The flat part would rest on the underneath side of your forearm as you work/pitch the jig. I have seen them used on several different production rods, but am having trouble sourcing the part myself. The skinnier end should have an OD less than 20mm. The larger end would match up to a butt cap with OD ~27mm. Overall length is probably 6-8" with some flexibility. Thanks! There are triangle eva foregrips out there you could shape some off of. Re: In search of triangle/flat-topped tapered EVA butt grips

I have seen the 10" tapered flat top grip from Batson but by the time you'd shave it down to the size i need, youre better off starting with a cylinder. Ive considered trying to turn my own - whats the best way to cut that smooth and flat? Re: In search of triangle/flat-topped tapered EVA butt grips

I’ve used the Forecast FGTRI12.0E-500 model for fore grips. They cut easily with a razor blade, and smoothing and putting a radius around the cut is readily done with sandpaper. The narrowest part of the straight, rear 9” is 32.27mm. The front 3” tapers down to 25.25mm and doesn’t look bad behind a 21mm OD winding check. It wouldn’t require a lot of shaping to get to your specs. They are relatively durable unless a boat mate pulls a 9/0 J hook off a harness lug to look at it and then embeds it in the grip because that’s they way he always does it on his Tiger (kept my cool and manners). My mom's Daiwa salmon rod from back in the very early 90's has triangle grips on it, it was a surprise to me how much I liked it. The foregrip as maybe 3 1/2 inches long. Re: In search of triangle/flat-topped tapered EVA butt grips

Flat sided s not triangle shaped, I find the triangle shape to be far more ergonomic. Re: In search of triangle/flat-topped tapered EVA butt grips

Just curious - for an SPJ butt grip, how is the triangle more ergonomic than a flat top?
You arent ever really gripping that section, just bracing on your forearm while you pitch/work the jig. I've even considered some options I found on a CDM marketplace that are flat on top and bottom. I dont have enough experience with the different types to say one way or another so I am open to more experienced feedback. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/14/2024 08:20PM by Patrick Coco. Am I correct in assuming that EVA piece on the butt cap is included? Or could that be swapped out for a gimbal? I have found that a gimbal is helpful in storage and on boat rides, although hardly necrssary. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
