NFC sj 703 splinter?

Just received this blank yesterday in the mail and was doing a visual inspection on it and realized if I run my finger across the top it splinters on one side as shown in the photo. The splintering doesn’t extend past the tip top tube I plan on using as far as I can tell but I haven’t tried seeing how far down they go because I don’t wanna make it worse but my question though, is this normal? The blank shouldn’t have been damaged during shipping as nfc really packs their stuff very well. Just wanted to see what the experts here say before I start wrapping this thing.

Most likely that happened during the final trimming operation. Once you slide the tiptop on it, assuming the tube end extends past the splintering, it'll be fine.

I've had a couple blanks that are the same as you show (including one with the SJ703 I built this March). I apply the tip top the same way, and am mindful to make sure the splinter(s) is INSIDE the tube when I glue it.

I noticed splinters like that on an SJ703 when I tried to slide on the tip top. I assumed I made the splinters with the tip top but it could have come like yours.
