Recommendations Needed: Choosing the Right Grip for an Old Wilson Live Fibre Rod Restoration Project
Posted by: Custom Rod Builders FB Post (Moderator)
Date: September 30, 2024 02:24PM

quick question, but first some context..

I am building up an old blank (I think it was an old Wilson Live Fibre I've had in storage for almost 20 years)

Will be using the rod for trolling in Australian alpine dams.

I will be using an old Made In Sweden ABU 6500c with the rod.

The blank is 1.82m long (which I like as it spreads lures out wide.
It has a really soft tip which I like for our trout waters.
It's 2mm at tip and only 3.8mm 750mm from tip
The taper then becomes more powerful in butt out to 19mm at butt.

In planning the position of reel seat about 350mm from butt feels right.

Blank diameter at position of reel seat is 16.5mm.
I am not fond of "trigger grip real seats and I have a FUJI DPSSD 17 in my old parts drawer to use.

I have zero preference for grip material I have cork and EVA and like both.

NOW The Question..

What grip would you recommend for this build?

Seeking Minimalist Design Ideas for Trim Work on Upcoming Rod Project
Posted by: Custom Rod Builders FB Post (Moderator)
Date: September 30, 2024 02:25PM

Looking for a little inspiration/ideas on trim work on an upcoming rod. Not looking for chevrons/dragon scales/etc. Keeping rod as light as possible with no extra thread work than is necessary for functionality. That being said I do want designs in the trim bands of the guide wraps and after winding checks.

Hello, have any of you done a rod using Italian flag colors?
What thread wide you find matched the green and red best after applying apoxy. I'd like to avoid using CP on the guides. Thank-you

Need Advice: Using Casting Configuration Guide Spacing for Building a Spinning Configuration on a Rainshadow Blank
Posted by: Custom Rod Builders FB Post (Moderator)
Date: September 30, 2024 02:27PM

May not be the smartest question but whatever, I've got a rainshadow blank and batson has a drop box on their website of rod recipies for most of their blanks. However I'm building this particular blank in a spinning configuration, but the guide spacing I've found is for a casting configuration.

I guess what I'm getting at is can I use those numbers and use spinning guides? Should I start there and do a static test and see how the line looks ? Or does someone have a guide spacing chart with a 7'10 spinning rod laid out?

Seeking Help: LPX-800 Labels Peeling Under Prokote Epoxy despite Variable Heating Attempts
Posted by: Custom Rod Builders FB Post (Moderator)
Date: September 30, 2024 02:28PM

Howdy, having an issue lately with LPX-800 labels peeling up under epoxy. Havent changed anything technique-wise but have tried more heat, less heat, and no heat with no dice. It usually happens over the course of 12 hours so by the time I see it, epoxy is unsalvageable. Any ideas for mitigating peeling? Epoxy is prokote.

Edit: surfaces are prepped with 70% isopropyl alcohol and decal sits for at least 30 minutes before epoxy is applied.

Oddly enough, in this picture, only the top decal is affected even though both decals were applied at the same time and in the same way. Only difference is that the bottom one was trimmed down on the sides and was very small width-wise. Might be that the top decal was too wide for the blank to adhere very well.

Looking for Specific Builder's Page with Coors Light-labeled Rod

I saw some where on one of the builders pages... I think. A rod that had coors light can or label on it.
Does anyone know which page that was one?
