Good to build on?

Date: August 31, 2024 08:37PM Hey guys, Would you guys build on this? This is a blank that I’m going to leave nameless but I’ve had to warranty two times now and I’m now on my third blank from this company. I have no issue cosmetically with the curve but this blank is dead straight until the last 1.5 inches or so and I wasn’t sure if this would be described as a sudden crook or a gradual curve. As a side note, the reason for warranty on the two previous blanks wasn’t for curves but rather cracks in the butt of the blank upon delivery. Re: Good to build on?

Looks like a sudden crook to me. I would send the photo to the company and see what they will do for you. Re: Good to build on?

I would not consider it, regardless of what anyone said. Custom rods require an investment of time, creativity, and money. To do that on something this flawed is a hard pass. Re: Good to build on?

I agree with Kendall, and would not leave it up to the company to decide. Actually, after three unacceptable blanks it is unlikely I’d continue the relationship. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/01/2024 07:47AM by Jeff Shafer. Re: Good to build on?

Well the company has been great to work with and I’m not trying to bad mouth them I just can be super particular and before I emailed them again I wanted to make sure the email would even be warranted. I’ve built plenty of blanks with a gradual curve but this appeared to be sort of a hook so I was a little thrown off. I sent them an email and will see what they say! Re: Good to build on?

Structurally it's likely to be just fine. However, we could say the same about a new car that has a.bad flaw in the paint, etc. At some point you're not only paying for something sound, but something that appears to meet good quality control standards. I think this is getting pretty close to being outside of that realm.

If you were making blanks would this be good enough for you to ship? Bet not. Re: Good to build on?

NFC has built the reputation, but they aren’t the only company that has ever gotten the bends. You could pull a cork out of a bottle with this one from another maker. It was graciously replaced.
