What are my options for skinny water coho drift fishing blanks? Currently using a Sage fly blank tied into a drift rod. Don't have much else to cast light weights with. Is there a legit drift blank in the 8 to 8 ft 6 range to drift with 6 lb leader and maybe 1/4 oz weight? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/14/2024 10:09PM by Derick Jahnke. Check out the NFC stealhead blanks. They have an 802, 862, 902, 993, my favourite is the 993 but I like a longer blank for line control and shock absorption. But any of those are awesome light action blanks. Re: Blank for Coho drifting

With 6 lb. line you are pushing the limits of coho fishing as they love things a bit trashier than steelhead, having their noses closer to structure. Ever tried maybe twitching some light jigs while you're at it? Makes them many times move out a bit and much easier to control then drift gear, same with spinners and spoons. The 862 would protect 6 lb. line much more reliably than some of the other options, I own a similar power and carbon Lamiglas summer steelhead rod. Re: Blank for Coho drifting

I've tried twitching and spinners but be doing it wrong. Touched nothing with them. Kind of stuck fishing pressured areas by foot so was hoping a finesse approach would prove more effective. Oh, it can effective, but like any light line presentation it will take a while to figure out how to keep max pressure on the fish. You can't stop them, so you need to use line position and rod angle to get them to unwittingly cooperate. A lot of high pressure, 75 to 90 degree angle, and more parallel to the water stuff gets the job done. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
