I have some older decals made by Decal Connection and noticed that after burnishing the decal will not release from the clear covering. Any solutions or remedies. I tried contacting them but they are closed till Monday, and need to get a rod out. By the way really like Decal Connection decals.
Thank you Pat Barnard Re: Decal not releasing covering

Is this a water release decal or a peel and stick?

Peel and Stick. They are approximately 5 years old. Maybe this is the factor. I attempted to put them directly on the blank as well as a finish coat, both with the same results. Also tried heat as well.
Thank you Re: Decal not releasing covering

Try peeling at a very acute angle, and watch the decal edge. If it starts to lift, pin it with a fingernail. By acute angle of pull, I mean don't pull up away from the decal, pull right along the surface to minimize the force pulling up. It's more of a pull across. Hope you get it from my description.
I have their decals that are that old and they work fine. But you have to be careful in starting the pull like I described. They haven't changed with time. Also, make sure there is no contamination on the blank. Wipe with clean dry cloth or paper towel to be sure. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/26/2024 04:09PM by Michael Danek. Patrick,
Age can certainly affect the properties of the decal. If in doubt, obtain some new decals and see how those work for you. If you have no other option, you could try a tiny bit of heat to see if the heat would make a difference. Re: Decal not releasing covering

Thanks for all the replies and the time spent helping on my issue. I went thru several more decals with the same results. Found some older decals from Decal Connection and I was able to get one to release from the cover material, so all is good. I’m just going to order a new set to alleviate this issue.
Thanks again, Pat Barnard Re: Decal not releasing covering

I don't get it. I have Decal Connection decals that are many years old and I cannot detect any change. Make sure you don't have some contaminants on the blank. Also, make sure you aggressively burnish the decals down before removing the cover. I use a thread burnishing tool with a piece of paper protecting the decal, focusing especially on the edges. Just wanted to let y’all know I received a call from Decal Connection owner and he gave several tips on how to get the decal to release. I will post these when I get time. Great custom service from Decal Connection. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
