I know there are a few threads on this, but still no info on what I’m after. I’m wanting to know the best reel seat insert OD that fits well. All I found was someone going with a 15.1mm OD insert but no follow up if it worked. I ordered a few to try out. 15.1 OD, 15.0 OD. If they don’t work, i’ll use them on future builds. Will be using my first NFC reel seat on my 7’3” Immortal Heavy/Extra Fast. OD of the blank area the reel seat will be on is 13.4mm. If that info is needed for you guys.
I have two of these NFC casting reel seats. Curious what inserts anyone went with that fit well. Thx Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

I tried a standard 15 mm insert and it was too small. Instead, I bought a piece of acrylic and turned it on my lathe to get the right fit. I know it doesn't help if you don't have a lathe, but a lathe is invaluable for all of those odd/off dimension items. I haven't bought a winding check in years. It is easy to turn a piece of acrylic, corian, wood, or other material to get these items to fit perfectly. It also adds a level of personal touch. Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

I’ll make the 15.1mm insert work. I can live with a little gap. Personal rods, not a huge deal. Still new to all this. Epoxy insert to blank, let dry, then install reel seat? Nevermind, most videos show people installing it into the reel seat first then onto the rod. In my head, installing it on the blank seemed easier. Hmmm Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

After I burn through these NFC reel seats, I’ll be going with Alps MVT. Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

FYI, 15.1mm (OD) reel insert fits the NFC reel seat very snug. Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

The difference in the two tubes is 4/1000th inch, so 0.002 inches each side on the 15 mm, does the other leave you room for glue being so snug? A piece of printer paper is around 0.039" Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

A > piece of printer paper is around 0.039" Several "15mm" inserts I ordered ranged from 14.6-14.7mm actual OD and the ID of the seats in question were 15.2mm at the cutout. I think this is why folks are having difficulty finding good inserts. Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

A > piece of printer paper is around 0.039" Great point. It’s so snug that I don’t know if it leaves enough room for epoxy. I also have a 15.0 mm I can use. I’d prefer to use the 15.0 because it’s a better fit on the area of the rod the reel seat will be going I haven’t measured the true OD of these inserts yet. I will do that here shortly. I bet the 15.1 insert is a little over 15.1 based on the fit or the reel seat varied a little. Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

I also assume my 15mm insert is actually under 15mm based on the fit (assuming reel seat is consistent with others). I’ll measure them then post it here. Re: Optimal NFC Casting Reel Seat Insert OD?

OD of blank my reel seat with be: ~13.4mm (Immortal H/Xast)
1). 15.1mm Insert OD is actually 15.19mm (ID of insert is 13.9) 2).15.0 mm Insert OD is actually 14.84 (ID of insert is 13.4) I’d prefer to use the 15.0 insert because the ID of it fits better. I’ll probably go with the 15.19 though. I’ll sand the areas that are hidden behind the reel seat to make room for the epoxy. Worst case, I’ll go with the 14.84. A little bit of gap doesn’t bother me. I’ll make one of these work. Good to know the insert OD’s vary from what they are listed as. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
