Will be using this blank for a spinning rod for my wife. The Fuji software doesn’t work on my phone (format is off). This will be my 1st Spinning rod build. I’m much more familiar with casting rods. She’ll be using mainly baby brush hogs on it. Not sure which reel I’ll buy for it. I’m
open for recommendations on that too. I’m not a spinning reel guy. Baitcaster always unless crappie fishing.

Anyone have builds on this and if so, what is your guide train (guide model, sizes, amount, etc). I plan to use Fuji Sic, maybe Alconite. I struggle using the search function on this forum. Nothing ever comes up. I’m sure it’s something on my end I’m doing wrong.

Basically wanting to know a good/typical guide reduction train for this. Start with 20? On Spinning reels, I use braid. Always Fluro or Mono on baitcasters.

Read the article on the New Guide Concept in the online library here. That will be a good place for you to start. Ultimately your real size, chokepoint, and line pass, will dictate guide reduction sizes.

I like using a KR spinning guide concept. For your rod, I use a 2500 or 3000 size reel with 10 to 15 # braid connected to a 15 to 20# fluorocarbon or mono leader using an FG knot. The reduction train will consist of a KL20H, KL10H, and KL5.5M or KL6L. The running guides are 1 or 2 KB guides with the rest being KT guides in the size of your choice, I like size 5 or 4.5. For a 7’3” rod I normally use 9 to10 guides total. The tip top I use is an LG with a ring size the same as the runners. The KR GPS at Anglers Resource will give you a very good starting point. I do exactly what Norman recommends on spin and don't even bother to test cast any more. I have never been able to improve on what the software recommends for the reduction guides, and the runners placed with the two line static load test places them just fine.

thanks guys. She decided she wants to keep it as a bait caster. I’ll go with Fuji KW10, KW5.5, KB5(3), rest KT5. Going all Alconite on these rather than Sic or Torzite. Will save the info regarding the Spinning guide reduction.

Hard to go wrong with that. I've found my baitcasters handle a hair better with the Fuji Rv6 butt guide straight to kb5s in lieu of the kw10, kw5.5. If you haven't experimented with it before, it's worth a look. The RV6 only comes in titanium so it's a little more $ but not too bad since it's only 1 guide you're paying the premium for.

I doubt if I could tell the performance difference between an RV6 and double foot 10. Don't overthink this. Your plan is sound.

Thanks. I’m going to stick with the exact same thing I did on my first 725 C6O2 and I’ll save the RV6 for the MB-735 HM non X-Ray or future TBD build. KW10, KW5.5, KB4.5 (3), KT4.5 (7) and Arowana 4.5 turned out very good on my first ever build on the 725 C6O2, I’ll repeat it on this one.

I have 4 blanks that will arrive in 2-3 weeks (hopefully) from NFC. Going with Alconite on the other three rods minus the single titanium RV6 I might use on one of them. I might try a spiral wrap on the SJ-736 X-Ray. I’ve never fished with a spiral wrapped rod. Need to test it out at some point. I assume it’s not needed for the species of fish I do: Bass, saugeye (nothing huge), hybrid bass, occasional catfish. Haven’t fully decided if I’ll try it or not. I ordered enough Alconite KW, KB, and KT’s for the other 3 guide trains.

Just ordered the SJ-764 X-Ray C6O2 (Carbon Air), this info will come in handy now. This will be my first ever spinning rod build. I’m going to cut it down to 7’2” (maybe only 7’3”). KR GPS won’t work on my phone. Format is off. I’ll get on a computer to check it out. Not sure which reel I’ll use yet, so waiting to plug that info in. 20H, 10H, and 5.5M I’ll get. (They are very pricy if you get titanium!!) I might go Alconite for these 3, then sic on KB’s and KT’s. Or just do all alconite. I have time to decide. I think I have enough KB and KT 4.5’s or 5’s (Sic or Alconite).
