Rod Bond and heat.

I have glued a reelseast with Rod Bond epoxy. I wish to make a little change to the rod. Will heat like boiling water or heatgun losen the the metal parts glued with Rod Boond?

Maybe. Hot water is the safest bet. If you use a heat gun there is no doubt you can eventually get the RB to let go, but the blank may also let go.

If you search, you'll find a thread I started on my comparing methods to take an old reel seat off. I actually cut an old, busted rod down to about 12-15" just to make it easier to experiment with the different methods.

Boiling water - That failed miserably. Now, I'm sure different epoxies will have a different setting point and I have no idea what epoxy was used as, again, this was an old, broken factory rod. But, I left it over boiling water for well over an hour and it never broke loose.

Heat - Now, you may or not want to give this a go but, since I cut the rod down, I was able to put it in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes. The grips and reel seat slid off easy with no *apparent* ill effects on the blank.

Bottom line, *I* would do the direct heat method if it were mine, but I'd be really careful with the time I exposed the blank to the heat.

If it is an all metal reel seat, I would use boiling ware, Boil for at least 15 minutes and may take a couple of tries. Has always worked for me!
