Stripping Guides on fly rods

Hi All
I have been building rods for the last 35 plus years and on fly rods ive always put stripping guides with two feet . My question is or query is what is stopping me from putting a large single leg stripping guide, is it weaker, will it cause line tangles.

Thanks in advance

Bryan

Nothing is stopping you. If should not cause line tangles - the line won't know if the guide has one or two legs and feet. However, a double foot guide in that location isn't going to add enough additional weight to affect anything by much and it will offer you a bit more strength against deformation when putting or pulling the rod into or out of the rod tube. What line weight rod are we talking about here? Do you need the additional strength for fighting very large fish?

Hi
Its a 10 ft 7line North Fork blank which will be used for stillwater fishing.

Thanks

Bryan

You could go either way and be fine. I would probably use a double foot stripping guide and a double foot subsequent guide just for the added durability. I don’t think using single foot guides in those positions really buys you anything.
