Kerry, what you're talking about with having something fixed that is running through the tip top ring, is going to make the tip wobble. The tip top ring isn't in line with the blank.

David, Your right, so last night before seeing your remarks, thinking on it more I realized what you are saying so I altered my design, so now I have a right angle fitting at the top of my post which is fixed in the base which fits in and clamps on my CPW wrapper. I had some guides from repairs and I took one that the ceramic ring was large enough to slip over any tiptop I would ever install and the tube on the tiptop will ride on the fixtures ceramic ring surface. Thus my post is out beyond the tip of the new rod so not in my way when wrapping.

At one time Billy Vivona(N.E.R.B.S.) made and sold this very item you wish to have. I have one that is fixed to one of my uprights and use it often. Its made of metal, adjustable, and its the answer to your problems.

Kerry, good to see what you came up with worked out. Supporting the tip top makes all the difference in the world, doesn't it.

Thanks for all the tips/advice. Good stuff. Never occurred to me that having that extra bit of flex out toward tip would be problematic. Having that extra bit of support for blank and also better securing guides definitely reduced my issues. Can see how having that support would be crucial for ice rods as well. Have heard and read they are more challenging to wrap. A friend is looking to build an ice rod so will pass along these tips as he gets into wrapping.
