Decals

I have used water slide decals many times in the past with little problems but yesterday I cannot get decal to slide off backing easily and when it does slide it comes off in a messy blob. I have tried different soaking times and does not matter. Decal paper is made by Haynes and is about a year old. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Might be time to buy fresh decal paper. And not all are created equal. Is this the first time you have tried that brand?

Odds are it may very well be the first time for this brand. I keep it in a drawer in a cool space and thought it should last for years. Anyone suggest a certain brand that they prefer?

Jeff, Coat the decal with color preserver and let it dry over night . Cut out and soak as normal.,then apply.

Jeff,
Admittedly, I have not used water-slide decals for rod building; only when building model cars back in the 50s and 60s. Therefore, the above replies seem like good advice = use newer stock or change brand.
Of course, there is another option which many rod builders, such as myself, and even rod manufacturers use = Decal Connection. I have purchased full sheets of my logo as well as all of my individual inscription decals (peel-n-stick) from them and could not be happier with the quality, <$5.00 delivered, and prompt 2-4 day shipping. Plus, Debbie and Chuck are very knowledgeable, professional, accommodating and very easy to deal with. There is a reason why so many builders and manufacturers alike use them!

Try Hobby Lobby's house brand decal paper. It's pretty good.
