The demo wasn't intended to be practical in terms of fishing it - it was intended as a real world demo for those who believed that you make a rod stiffer by adding guides to it. The idea that adding one or two guides makes it stiffer, but adding 20 guides makes it softer flies in the face of reason.

Try it for yourself - measure a naked rod blank. Now wrap a half dozen guides on it (which is a practical amount) and measure it again. If you find an increase in the rod's power (ERN) you will be the first person in history to stiffen a rod by adding guides to it.
