Greetings,
At the ICBRE I went to a seminar by Nuno Paulino where he was doing marbling on rods and guides. I was very intrigued by this and would like try this and practice it. Are there any suggestions on what I can practice this on without it being a rod blank or rather cheaper than the blanks I have? Thanks Stan Re: Practice Rod Equivalent

I use a stub of 3/4” PVC pipe in my dryer motor drum to tape small parts to for coloring and coating with rod finish. I’d think one this size or 1/2”, several feet long would allow for all the practice you would ever need. You could give it a base color several different ways. Re: Practice Rod Equivalent

Pretty economical small fiberglass tubes are available on line and can be used for rod repair as well. Re: Practice Rod Equivalent

You can buy fiberglass "corner markers" at the hardware store - used to mark corners of property so the snow plows don't run over them and such.... they are typically orange but paint them to liking, or you'll be slatering colored epoxt on them anyway :)
Or - wooden dowels - on these I like to spray with a coat of gloss paint and maybe a hard clear if I'm using them to practice wrap... Re: Practice Rod Equivalent

Broken rods, there are a lot of them out there. Go to your local Tackle store and ask if they have any broken rods they want to get rid of.

Hello All.
A guy a while back used to marble wine glass stems, If I need to practice I just get a wooden dowl about the same size of the rod, paint whatever color the blank is going to be, let it dry and then have at it. If you want to practice marbling on a small area use ink pens, as Norman said small dia PVC can be painted to match the color blank...;so forth and so on 10000000000's of way's.
