Some are talking about just balancing a rod, while others are talking about balancing a rod and reel.

And isn't balance part of ergonomics?

Personally, if the rod is of the type that I believe balance of the rod and reel combination is important, then I am not the least bit concerned with how much the rod itself, ends up weighing.

Some objective data dealing with the affect that weight added at the butt of a rod, has on that rod's tip weight.

And Michael? The cast where you say you almost lost the rod overboard because it torqued out of your hand? You didn't happen to forget to disengage the spool on that cast, did you? <grin>

Long time ago. I don't think so , but might have. :-)

Yes, balance, IMHO, is part of ergonomics. And also, IMHO, talking about balance without a reel on the rod is a waste of time. Unless you plan to fish without a reel on the rod.
