Sorry if this is a duplicate. Bought a spool of this in a royal blue color. Looks cool on the blank. Anyone try this ? Thoughts or tips are appreciated. Sam

Easy to us no CP needed. The blue is my favorite, but the purple is really sweet for a ladies rod.

Thanks - Marc

Keep it simple - that's all I can handle!

I’ve got the blue. Going to make a basic rod. No trim bands with carbon fiber grips. I’m a pretty new at this. Gonna give it a shot. I’ve heard talk about putting epoxy on the CFB grips. Do you think it’s necessary?

No extra epoxy is NEEDED on CF grips. They are super tough and durable in their "raw" state. Will fish for years and look new again with water, a sponge, and some soap. (Soap may even be optional.)

I did coat one set of CF grips with one application of Prema Gloss, and it turend out great.
* Saturated a grey-foam painter's brush with PG and put down one even coat under a rod-dryer RPM (9 RPM) which is probably too slow, but it worked out fine.

Made the "feel" of the grip a bit more smooth (not slippery) than the 'rougher texture' of the un-coated CF.

On another grip, I sprayed with Helmsman Spar Varnish (Minwax product, I think) and it, too, turned out great. Multiple light coats. You can go with a Matte to High Gloss finish. I like Satin.

The more coats you add, the smoother it gets. Not slippery under fishing conditions. (I say this because there is always someone who says the grips will be slippery when their hands are coated in axel grease, fish slime, and what-not else. I'd say you need a towel more than a critique on the grips. Ha!)

Variegated thread in any color creates a unique striped or marbled look, IMO. One of my clients picked it out without my mentioning it - he liked that look!

Thanks, never used Permagloss. Made my brother a rod with CF split grips. I left em raw. They look cool and seem to be light. With the variegated thread to you add any trim bands or not. Did a couple practice runs with the blue and silver trim band vs just blue. Hard to decide. Thanks , Sam
