Was told I can make my own decals with a laser printer and the correct paper. Curious if anyone does this and the pros and cons.

I have done a lot of decal work on inkjets, but not lasers. The problem with inkjets, and probably lasers, is that the colors do not last well in the sun, either changing colors or fading. I believe that pigment based inks are better for this than dye based inks, but I don't know the details of laser inks. Here is a link that speaks some on the subject. [www.signs.com]

Look at label printers like the Brother P Touch PT-P700. They have White on Clear tape and you can also get Green on Clear, Red on Clear and Blue on Clear. It can print from an original mono tone Logo or you can use their Fonts. The tape comes in 1/2", 3/4" and 1" widths. There are other label printers too like the Epson (LW-PX400 White on Clear and Gold on Clear 3/4"&1") and Dymo. Hope this helps.

Color preservative prevents the penetration of the thread by the epoxy but does not filter UV. The UV resistant epoxies are UV stable to some degree, but they do not protect what's under them. There is no protection for the surfaces under the epoxy. That depends entirely on the ink. I gave up on doing custom decals because I couldn't be assured that the inkjet ink would last. I now have Decal Connection decal for my "logo, ID," and do the rest with blank manufacturer decals and hand written text.
