Correct. The first guide in truth is the stripper. I should have referred to the second guide I recommended as a double-footed ceramic ring type. I'd also agree that I don't see any functional need for a stripper guide larger than a 16. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/08/2023 06:01PM by david taylor. Re: Fly Rod Striper Guides

Have been away for a while and would like to catch up and express my gratitude to all who responded to my inquiry.

I’m also building a 9’ 9wt and I ordered size 16 and 12, 12 for stripper and 16 for running down to 3s for snake guides. However this is my first salt water build and I was comparing it to my tnt 9wt and that stripping guide is much larger, maybe 2 sizes up. I was planning on using recoil double foot guides. I kind of like the idea of a larger stripping guide in case any knots in fly happen happen right before an albie takes my line. Does a sz 20 stripping guide sound crazy?
