I built out one of these blanks, and am willing to depart for it at a 50% discount from the Hermes price! LOL
By the way,it fishes great for small streams> Casts very much like bamboo. Re: The blank that makes a $13,000 Fly Rod is now available to Rod Builders!

Having never fished a bamboo rod. How does it differ from a graphite one? Re: The blank that makes a $13,000 Fly Rod is now available to Rod Builders!

Generally a bamboo rod will not be as quick in terms of rod speed (reaction/recovery) as a graphite rod. (Action, can be identical as action is independent of material.)

Alex:
What type of ferrule is on these blanks, if any? Or does one need to put on metal ferrules as on bamboo? Also, are these blanks finished in terms of a protective coating, or must some type of varnish be applied as in bamboo? Thanks. Aleks,
Gota say I am curious about these blanks. My question, why a 3 and 4wt? Did the properties of the material just regard itself to a 3 and 4wt? Just my 2 cents, a 7-9 or 8’ 4wt and 8’ to 8’-6” on a 5wt would seem more practical and popular. Being someone that loves Glass and Bamboo, I’m probably gona buy a blank…… I do like the color! So the question of the day is this:
Since this rod sells for $13,000, does this mean that you catch that many more fish than one would catch with an $800 rod? I wonder!! Re: The blank that makes a $13,000 Fly Rod is now available to Rod Builders!

This blank is a tip over ferrule, like Carbon fiber blanks, no metal. They have what appears to be a varnish or urethane coating.
This was a limited edition beta, 25 of each configuration, in 2016, not sure there are any left. I don't believe they ever had an intention to mass produce these blanks. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 01/19/2023 01:11PM by Phil Erickson. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
