I just picked up a few sets of SHG rod guides that were at a rod building shop that is very spartan for what they carry and i got a great deal on them. My question is are they any good? could i use them on a 40-50 lb rod? Thanks for your help! Kevin Gross Many men will spend their whole life wondering if they made a difference. Kevin,
To be honest, I am unfamiliar with Fuji SHG guides; they were from before I started building rods. With that said, and although they would work, why do you want to use an old style guide on a new build? If it is a nostalgic thing, then that’s all fine and dandy. But there are presently much better choices available for your 50lb rod; HBs, HNs, possibly MNs or KWs. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! They look like all their other guides so why not use them? Kevin Gross Many men will spend their whole life wondering if they made a difference. Marines dont have that problem - Ronald Regan Re: FUJI SHG ROD GUIDES

Kevin,
The choice is certainly up to you! As said previously, either will work. To me, I would use a presently common guide in anticipation of possible replacement down the road. Besides, the older a guide is = the more difficult to locate a replacement if needed. I build quite a few rods utilizing advanced component and concept technology on vintage blanks which produces rather unique rods; the inverse (vintage components on modern technology blanks) is counterproductive. While you may have saved money on your purchase of SHG guides, “let the buyer beware”; there are presently much better alternatives. Once again, either will work = your choice.
