So my question is you know how some rod companies have a small colored portion just above the reel seat/locking nut between stripper guide, can this be achieved with an airbrush and does anybody have experience with this

Yes it can and is often done. If you have experience with an air-brush you already know how to do it.

Lumping all rattle cans as cheap paint speaks volumes.

While good paint can be had in rattle cans, if the area's not to large an airbrush would be a lot neater from an overspray standpoint.

NP...Search for MTN 94
[www.montanacolors.com]

Airbrushing is great for some fine details...I always run into trouble on slick surfaces (like blanks)....things tend to spider (usually).
So....If Im airbrushing.....I need to do a little prep work on the blank.....then I need to seal it with something...either epoxy or a spray clear acrylic.
If I use a rattlecan I just tape it off and spray....no prep...no seal.
