That butt grip is made from a turned piece of acrylic.

@Voodoo do you have pieces of acrylic like that? If not, do you know where to get some?

I don' keep them & not sure any of the sponsors on the left do either. I've used Bear Tooth Woods in the past - they sell mostly pen blanks but they do have a decent selection of "large" blanks (1-1/2" X 6")

El, keep in mind acrylic is heavy as compared to EVA, cork, or CF.

Super unique-looking acrylic grips!

I have made several winding checks with acrylic, never a full grip; they look great and are fun to make. I found my acrylic blanks at a local wood crafting shop (I think called Woodcrafters). The size selection is often limited to ink-pen making dimensions, though.

Because of what Lynn says, if I wanted to make an acrylic grip, I would consider boring it as thin as practical and use a foam arbor epoxied inside to fit it to blank.

Same foam arbors for wood and burl cork (which I have used in grips) to keep the weight down.

Reel seat arbors are fairly small for these type rods but if you did want to core them, here's how: [www.rodmakermagazine.com]

Awesome, thanks for the info. I can see heavier acrylic being useless for pitching and Flippin to help ease some of that motion on the wrist, and the arbor idea is great because geez that looks awesome!

None of those pictured by roger are sufficient to do a butt grip, those are merely at the largest 3/4" square or round. You must seek out the larger Call making blanks that are 1.5" or larger

Segue to the EXPO:

Several years ago, I bought a few "raw" foam cores at Tom's EXPO. These arbors were for making carbon grip cores; Riley Rods made them, I think.

You can even make your own foam cores.

Mud Hole sells graphite and poly arbors with O.D.'s up to 1.16-inches.

Awesome thanks yall! I'm still a ways away from being able to venture into all this, but I can already tell I'm hooked on the idea of being able to add that much more customization. Maybe through the next year or two I can slowly accumulate some different tools and stuff, I'm just hoping I can keep finding people to build for - in already building rods my my daughter,wife, friend, his kids,myself, nephew... only one left I know who fishes is brother in law.

Regarding this different grip materials what would offer the most sensitivity? (Or even the difference between cork qualities)
