Would a north fork composite fast glass apfg 745-1 be a good option for bladed jig rod Re: North fork composite fast glass

Haven’t tried the 5, but the 4 is a nice smaller crank bait rod Re: North fork composite fast glass

Take a look at the Zentron Hybrid 705-1 and 706-1. If you like throwing bigger/heavier bladed baits (>3/8oz) go with the 706-1. The 705-1 could double as a squarebill/light bladed jig rod.
The nice thing about these blanks is the tip and the faster action. There's enough tip to let the fish eat the bait but a lot of backbone for getting them out of cover. Very happy with mine, better than retail offerings I have tried that target bladed jigs. My only critique is how thick the butt end is, almost at the threshold of a saltwater blank. I used Winn splits on the handles without issue, but on the fighting butt I actually used Fuji rubber butts after trashing a few Winn butts trying to ream to the OD needed. Not a big deal, but an FYI. Re: North fork composite fast glass

So you said the fighting butt of a Winn grip is hard to get reamed out to fit, is it possible though??? Re: North fork composite fast glass

I am a big fan of the APFG 745! To me, it is a very versatile blank....and very light weight for a glass blank. I built two of them because I liked them so much. Cranks, chatters, spinnerbaits, jigs, even topwater, I've found this line of blanks very effective.
Plenty of power. Very fast tip but more moderate action when loaded. Some of my CCS data for this blank: IP = 567; AA = 79/80. The APFG 744: IP = 447.5; AA = 79/80 (The little brother to the 745. A very good downsize version for the above baits). You'll enjoy these rods! Re: North fork composite fast glass

Any problems with wrapping guides it looks like there are tiny ridges through out the blank Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/11/2022 12:49PM by Brandon fennimore. Re: North fork composite fast glass

I don't have any issues with the ridges, and I use A thread. It does take a little more attention to the details, true. There is another good discussion on this topic of wrapping ridges in the list of topics.
If the ridges are a potential issue for you, go a different direction. Keep it Simple. As far as the blank goes, I enjoy it for the techniques you mentioned. Re: North fork composite fast glass

Brandon I only had issues with the fighting butt on the two Zentron 706-1 I have built, you can ream a Winn butt for the 705-1 although it was close. The two 706-1 blanks I received had 18mm butt end diameters. I can't comment on the APFG 745 butt diameter, haven't built one (yet).
Also, I haven't had any issues wrapping the delta blanks with A or D thread. I took a look and NFC reports the APFG 745 to have a ~0.57in butt which comes out to ~14.5mm -> you should have no issues reaming a Winn butt for that. Edited 1 time(s).
