Cork thickness

I'm building a swimbait rod and the base of the rod blank is .69" and the outside diameter of the cork is 1.06". After reaming the wall thickness of the cork is about .37". Is there a minimum wall thickness of the cork I should have? Will I have enough meat on this? Do I need to go with and EVA grip instead?
Thanks Rick Re: Cork thickness

The reamer stabilizes the grip while reaming, the blank does the same when glued down, I've done thinner, and you can too if you take your time. Re: Cork thickness

Make sure the reamed hole is large enough so that it's not a tight fit. Cork doesn't like tension stresses , and if the cork is stretched by a press fit, it may split. Later if not right away. Re: Cork thickness

If the blank is .69 dia and the cork OD is 1,06 dia the wall thickness is .37 divided by 2. The wall is .185 which is still thick enough with a loose fit as Michael suggests.. Re: Cork thickness

Rick,
I agree with all the above. 0.1875 in wall is getting pretty thin but doable if you’re careful and take your time. Patiencence is a virtue. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! BUILDING YOUR OWN SIMPLY ENHANCES THE EXPERIENCE. Re: Cork thickness

By the way, if you need a thin tough grip, the use of rubberized cork is a very good choice.
Rubberized cork is heavier than regular cork due to the adhesive holding the cork together. However rubberized cork is an incredibly tough and long lasting product. For hard use, and for long durability - especially with thin wall thicknesses - rubberized cork is tough to beat. This is the product - rubberized cork: [getbitoutdoors.com] Re: Cork thickness
