Is the Alps Triangle Reel Seat TRI-RAH12 too large or heavy for a 6wt graphite fly rod? The catalog suggests 8 - 12 wt. Re: Alps Triangle Reel Seat for 6wt trout rod

It depends, I built a NFC 6wt for a friend of mine and he chose an Alps Triangle seat and it looks great and he loves it. He uses a large diameter reel for given line weight size and that may make a difference whereas a smaller reel may not work as well. I can say the finished build looked great with that reel seat, enough so that I have been thinking of building myself a 6wt with the same seat. Re: Alps Triangle Reel Seat for 6wt trout rod

It looks good and would work for a 6wt but I just couldn't use it on the build I had intended to go on due to the weight. Weight in that area of the rod is really not going to hurt anything and may even improve the balance but it will add to the overall weight. I believe they have one with holes drilled in it to make it lighter. If you like it go for it and I don't think it will be an issue with a smaller diameter reel. You really will not feel the weight.
