Have any of you used a Breakaway Cannon Trigger on you surf casting spinning rods? Was thinking about better ways to mount besides electrical tape or zip ties.
Can't imagine tape on a custom rod. Scott Re: Breakaway Cannon Trigger

Scott,
I am uncertain that you and I are talking about the same device to hold the line of a spinning reel while casting with something other than one’s index finger, but I think so. Although I do not do a lot of surf fishing, I learned about this casting aid from this site, purchased one, installed it on my rod, and am happier than a pig in slop that I did = HUGE relief on my finger!!! Mine is still mounted with a zip tie (uncomfortable) but plan on permanently mounting to the rod with thread wraps when convinced it is in the perfect location. Since switching to braid on my drum spinning reels, the "trigger" has probably saved my finger from shreading., I suggest you try tape or zip ties til you determine where and if you like it. it's you rod, so treat it like its yours and enjoy using it.

I'm using one on my 14' Vapor Trail. It's set up South African-style with the spinning reel mounted about 11 inches from the butt and the trigger placed above the spool edge.
In South Africa they call them "bionic fingers". I have it taped on with bag sealing tape, which is very strong but it ain't exactly pretty but I'm not fussy. It works. Try using tape temporarily until you find the right placement, then thread-wrap it on, like a guide. Re: Breakaway Cannon Trigger

The Cannon is the way to go for distance fishing with braid. I don't think permanently mounting on a rod is a good idea because if you ever change the reel you're using you won't be able to adjust where the cannon is mounted. Another thing I do is mount the cannon on the side of the rod instead of directly above the spool. I use zip ties to mount. Re: Breakaway Cannon Trigger

Thank you for the comments. I wonder if a velro strap would work.

Scott,
Velcro may be too spongy but worth a try. Wrap it as tightly as possible and maybe even 2 rotations. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! BUILDING YOUR OWN SIMPLY ENHANCES THE EXPERIENCE. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
