Thank you. I have spent several hours reading older post from the archives here and every post agrees with you that there is no loss in function or sensitivity in the four piece blanks . On the flip side of that coin , I have not read any post that say having 4 pieces increases function or sensitivity relative to the two piece blanks . I am sure that you are right that they are much handier . I guess , once broken down , the smaller pieces would be much better and my web searches have shown that you're right about the larger selection - my guess is 4-6 times more choices . I guess the reasons I listed two pieces in my original criteria would be that my single experience with a fly rod has been with the two piece Fenwick and I didn't think there would be a problem with transportation . The fact that the two piece blanks ( in the same make and model ) are significantly less expensive is also a plus for me .

The sale of two piece fly rods are diminishing and have been for years. I build only fly rods and have not built a two piece in 10 or 15 years.

The IMX rods were brought back in the early 90's and were patterned after the GLX designs that had been introduced recently also, I have a 6wt. GLX that was one of the first built, I still love that rod for it's easy of use and good performance.

I can completely believe two piece sales are low compared to four piece . In my searches , finding a listing for a two piece was difficult with some suppliers having no listings at all . Is there some aspect regarding functioning or sensitivity that makes the two piece inferior or is the demand driven by the four piece simply being like Mr. Danek says handier ?

Fly fishermen are more likely to travel to fishing destinations. FWIW I'd rather have a 2 piece also.

Thank you . I know so very little about this but I couldn't imagine why a four piece would function better than a two piece other than in ease of transportation .

It is not a function issue at all, it is the convivence in handling especially when traveling. I also find easier to build 4 pc as one is dealing with short sections, making guide line-up easier as well as not needing long table and supports.

Fly anglers need 4 piece rods to travel because the gear anglers going to the same place take up all the room with their 1 and 2 piece rods going to the same place.

Took me awhile to wrap my head around this . I did end up taking your advice and went with a 6wt NFC ( F 906-2 Classic ) . Just hope it's not too much rod for the bluegill and white bass .

Mud hole should be putting some fly blanks on sale for Black Friday. You can probably pick up a nice 4pc 5wt fast blank for under $100. Really good blanks for 5wts and under. Very similar to the Batsons.

You can't go wrong with NFC. IT WILL MAKE AN EXCELENT FLY ROD! I am about to order one too, now I need to figure out if I want a fighting butt on it.

The action for the blank I ordered was listed as "moderate" by NFC . It was a little confusing to me as there are two "Classic" models listed in the NFC catalog ( I believe "Classic" and "Trout Classic" ) . Regardless , the blank I clicked "add to cart" on was listed as moderate with a model number F 906-2 Classic . The "moderate" action concerns me a little because I know so very little about fly rods . My very limited building experience has been with fast action blanks for spinning rigs . Oh well , it's mine now so I'll have to try to make do . A learning experience for sure .

Ronald, I would say it was because of your claim to knowing "so little about fly rods" plus what you do know is that Fenwick......was why that NFC blank was suggested. It will likely be faster than your Fenwick (and more powerful) but not so much faster that it requires a total readjustment of your casting mechanics.

I think you are going to love the rod and I predict you will add a 4, maybe even 3 weight, for the pan fish. I suspect that 6 weight you bought will do best with a 7 weight forward line, a bit bigger popping bug, and a 5# bass:)

So don't have buyers remorse. If anything you should have it for failing to buy three blanks (for maximum value and learning experience) like I suggested.
