I have a customer who is interested in a 2-pc for Deepwater, I've been building for about 5 years and haven't gotten into many specifics of the offshore rod, but this was curious, I don't imagine the typical ferrule can hold up to a fight from a fish applied to a 30-80lb line Blank. Has anyone done something like this before, or is customer just mistaken?
Thanks, Re: 2 Piece offshore Rod? Halibut, and Grouper 30-80lb XH?

Use one of the aluminum butts and reel seat that ferrule into the blank's butt and then screws on tight. You than have two pieces, reel seat and butt, and the rod blank with aluminum ferrule attached to the end of the butt. the ferrule keys in so you have instant realignment. Re: 2 Piece offshore Rod? Alex,
While anything is possible and nothing impossible, and with the exception that Spencer mentioned, I believe that a 2-piece, 80lb rod is a disaster waiting to happen, at least not worth taking the risk. Although it is less of an issue with the line class of the blank and more about the actual drag capability of the reel to generate excessive flex of the blank, I would not be comfortable sectioning such a build. But I will certainly be following the topic because I am here to learn. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! BUILDING YOUR OWN SIMPLY ENHANCES THE EXPERIENCE. Re: 2 Piece offshore Rod? Halibut, and Grouper 30-80lb XH?

United Composites has a 2-piece 10' blank rated 50 - 80, available through Anglers Workshop (Lure Parts Online) The description says it is a multi-modulus graphite. Re: 2 Piece offshore Rod? Halibut, and Grouper 30-80lb XH?

Recently I had a friend bring me a no-name 50 to 80 lb roller rod that was 5' 8". The rod was split exactly in 2 pcs using a threaded SS ferrule set up similar to the aluminum uni-butt set ups you can buy. The ferrule had split length wise and I could not come up with any information about it. I ended up manufacturing a sleeve from aluminum and assembling the rod back together as a one-piece rod. Not much help for you, but your customer is not crazy if they say they seen it before.

A 30-80 is way more rod than you need on halibut. Re: 2 Piece offshore Rod? Halibut, and Grouper 30-80lb XH?

This is all great information Herb, Spencer, Mark, and Rich. I'll hope to keep this thread alive I'll suggest a few options to the customer, however, I think that they are trying to use this as a "carry on" item therefore a 50/50 split is more in line with the intent. However, How do the rest of you feel about the sutting down of a similar rated rod from 10" down to 8' or less? Re: 2 Piece offshore Rod? Halibut, and Grouper 30-80lb XH?

Just buy the travel blank from NFC if you want a carry on, but it's more than 2 pieces. Re: 2 Piece offshore Rod? Halibut, and Grouper 30-80lb XH?

How about the:
CRB CBP7860-2 or the American Tackle Bushido BU-SWB3K8-2/30-50? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
