Request: Clarification of Closed Wrap Spacing Charts in Vivona Book

Just had to pull off my first attempt at a closed wrap, and I need some help. I have figured out that my mistake was not adjusting the spacing due to the taper of the rod.
That leads me to my question: Is there a layman's explanation for how to translate the rod diameter/circumference to the Spacing Charts in the back? I would like to do the Rose pattern on page 73. Based on my first attempt (at the Fish Outline on page 77), I think I want to do 7 or 8 passes. I'm using a MHX Max Taper rod and trying to do a 200mm wrap. The butt end of the wrap measures 12.30mm diameter / 39mm circumference. The mid-wrap measures 11.33mm diameter / 36.5mm. The tip end measures 10.54mm diameter / 33mm. The Rose pattern requires three cross points. The spacing chart on the back tells me to put 2mm between the first two and 9mm between the second and third (for an 8 pass pattern) Assuming a 36mm average spacing from one pattern to the next, am I supposed to measure from the first cross of one pattern to the first cross of the next? Or, am I supposed to measure from the third cross of the first pattern to the first cross of the next pattern? Does it matter? Also, how do I calculate "elongation" into this? Is is something that is mathematical, or is it more of an eyeball thing? I'm not the best mathematician, but it sure seems like there are some steps to calculate the spacing rules that were left out of the book. Any suggestions? Edited 1 time(s). The spacing charts are for the layout spacing from the pattern center points. You use TOS to figure out your design center point spacing on the axis and then use that tables for the design layout threads off of those Re: Request: Clarification of Closed Wrap Spacing Charts in Vivona Book

You will get a of opinions on this but many of us do not adjust for blank taper unless it is fairly extreme. You would be surprised how packing tighter on one end an burnishing or spreading on the other can result in a nice fill-in between patterns without any needs for TOS.

Thank you.
I would have liked to think I would not need for TOS, but on this rod (an MHX Extreme Taper) I apparently do. I had way too much gap on the big end to just burnish it out. Brian Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
