Here is a change that I made to a new Alps wrapper in 2015. I used a DC motor to power the wrapper. The DC motor is small and fits under the chuck in the head stock unit. The power is connected to the chuck shaft by use of an xl cogged belt using the same size xl pulleys on both the motor and on the chuck shaft. There is a reverse switch in a small box that is on the end of a cord that goes up and down the wrapper as one moves up and down the wrapper to different guides for wrapping. The foot pedal slides along the floor moving up and down the rod as the builder moves along the rod during its construction. The control box contains the power supply and speed control for switches and control of the system. [www.rodbuilding.org] So, one only has to wish it and it can be created.
