I fish Cape Cod and Maine freshwater with fly rods. Smallmouth and brown trout are my favorite fish. For smallies I fish a Lamiglas 8’ 6wt. 2 pc. glass fly rod built by a friend many years ago and fish primarily wet flies. For trout my favorite is an 8.5’ 6wt. Loomis im6 blank rod I built with single foot guides.I fish wet flies and small dries for trout. As you might tell, I like a slower action rod.

I’ve only built around 10 Rods total so I don’t have much experience.

Fish- largemouth and smallmouth bass
Favorite rod- NFC XRay SJ736. Originally bought the rod for a Texas rig rod but after building it realized it was a bit light for what I wanted to use it for. It has a perfect action for small finesse jigs and weightless senkos.

Brown and rainbow trout
RodGeeks C266ML. Not the most sensitive rod out there but great for spinners and drifting worms

Native Brook Trout in small mountain streams
Rainshadow Revelation 6’6” 2wt. First fly rod build. It’s almost effortless casting and I can roll cast farther with this short rod than I can with an 8’6” 5wt Orvis Clearwater.
-my next fly rod build will probably be with a JP Ross blank

Ice fishing (perch)
Bass Khang Panfish carbon 36” cut down to 30”.

I'm a shoreline fisherman on the island of Oahu in the State of Hawaii. My fishery encompasses ultralight to extra heavy "surf casting". For my ultralight gear I use both custom and factory built Fenwick rods in the 8 1/2' lengths and longer. These lengths are required to reach out over rocky shoreline areas. For light to medium heavy casting, 4-8oz lead, from beaches and short cliff areas I use CTS rods in the 13' lengths. For heavier shoreline fishing from high cliff areas I use IRW rods rated up to 10oz. I rarely do this type of fishing anymore and do more ultralight and casting from the beaches.so I can include my 89 year old father in my fishing outings. CTS and Fenwick have performed GREATLY for me for the last 12 and 40+ years respectively..

Love the island-saltwater take on GO TO rods!

Love this rod blank. I have a Legendary Walleye Series rod that I got as as gift. If I was building this rod, I would avoid using masking tape for the reel seat arbors...
