I'm using an aluminum Alps single trigger reel seat with a Carbon fiber grip. The grip does not have any type of pre fabricated trim ring exposure. The carbon fiber just wraps all the way to the center. Should I use a trim ring between the bottom grip and the reel seat. It looks like it should but I'm not sure. I have one for the top. (Rookie question)

It's not necessary but use one if you think it looks better that way.

Rick,
If I am NOT using a trim ring with an end-wrapped CF grip: If the grip is a tiny bit bumpy on the end that fits against the reel seat, I lightly sand it. I hold the grip at a 90-degree angle to a sanding block and flatten out any bumps and ridges that may prevent a flush fit (go slow, circular motion, and check often). Or, put the grip on a mandrel and lathe and clean-up the end with a fine-tooth file. Sanding/filing will not fray the carbon fibers. I do not go all the way down to the foam core; I just want to take off any parts that may keep the grip from fitting flush to the reel seat. If it fits close enough for what I want, I leave it all as is. Re: Reel Seat

I believe Alps makes a casting seat trim ring, TRC- Size and color choices. TRC17-B, for example. Heed Leslie's comment. Re: Reel Seat
