Seaguide guides

I ordered some seaguides for the first time. Put the first guide on and seem to have a problem getting the thread packed nice and tight. The ribs on the top of the foot are not allowing the size A thread to pack tight, the thread gets hung up in the ribs. Burnishing doesn’t seem to help much, i ground the ribs off slightly and that did help considerably but I really don’t want to have to grind down every guide before I wrap it. What am I doing wrong? The model I am using is SG-BXOLSG16 if that helps.
Thanks,
Dave

Guide manufacturers use various design methods to aid foot retention under the wraps and each method can introduce slight anomalies in thread finish appearance. I would suggest using a slightly larger thread size or a tighter wrap from the start and adjust tension so the thread completely fills the landing between ribs and stays on top of any rib to provide a tighter wrap. Each manufacture of guides have foot preparation process which ranges from no preparation to ramp grinding and perhaps foot bottom burnishing by builders judgement at time of installation. I have installed multiple Seaguide guides without experiencing the problem you related. Although not completely unavoidable if the thread size and tension is good packing is eliminated or minimized. Burnishing after wrapping helps normalize the thread surface by slightly smoothing and slightly shifting threads to equal distribution but if not tight to start can open gaps. Good Luck and Tight Lines
