How to apply a Leather foregrip for a game rod

Hi all,
I've been searching the web to try and find some info on how to apply / make a leather to a foregrip for a game rod. I have made a couple in the past but just can't seem to get the rippling effect how I'd like it. The store-bought rods leather finish looks good, but I can't seem to replicate them.

Also with the leather strapping, does anyone know where you can get the leather that has gold stripping or other impregnated color?
