Commercial Rod Making

Vic Cutter shot this over to me last evening. It shows a commercial rod operation and the processes involved in modern rod making on a commercial level. There are several interesting steps for rod builders to watch and in particular, seems to be some sort of heat sensitive thread or adhesive which negates the need for tie-off loops when completing a wrap. For these people, time is money.

I thought I could wrap guides quickly. Apparently I was wrong.

Man that is cool.

We need a similar video from NFC to show how it’s done in America!

Tom,
Thanks for sharing the great video. See how quick and easy it is? Custom rod builders make it look so difficult lol.

FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! BUILDING YOUR OWN SIMPLY ENHANCES THE EXPERIENCE.

Very interesting. We have a string of posts regarding expected weight variation in blanks. I think a .4 oz discrepancy was reported on about a 2 oz blank. That's 20%. After watching this video do you really think that there could be a 20% variation in blank weight from blank to blank?

No, 20% is probably a typo or some other mistake in specifying the weight.

Second comment: I've always thought I was a half fast wrapper. I was wrong. More like a 10% fast wrapper.

There’s a video I found on social that shows a wrapping lathe where the blank stays still and the wrapper turns around the blank. Super fast but they also secure the thread with a lighter

I build rods to relax and enjoy the process..They don,t look like their enjoying anything..Do they? to each their own.

Building a fishing rod is an act of love. No sense in rushing.
