Was looking at these grips and saw that they accommodate reel seats ranging from 21 mm to 25 mm. Has anyone used these? I know it may be a dumb question but im assuming the recessed cut out measures at 25 mm so if my reel seat hood measures at 21mm do I just shim the hood for a snug fit? I was just concerned with there being some visible gaps with my reel seat and the recessed cut out that would look undesirable.

Great Question, I have one of these and need to order a fly rod reel seat to go with and see what it looks like(fit wise) and what will need to be done.. Looking forward to seeing the responses..

Unlike cork, eva has some fexibility to it, I think they may be saying a 21mm cutout has been made, but it can expand up to a 25mm cutout if needed. This is nothing new, rod builders have long known eva grips will expand so they need not be perfectly reamed to fit like cork grips. I have stretched eva grips to fit that stopped a foot from the butt with no lroblems for decades.

Thanks for the response Spencer. I’m going to disagree though, because if you zoom in on some of the photos you can see a metal ring for the recess. So that side of the grip doesn’t appear to be Eva foam.

Thanks for that! Could you measure the recess without that metal trim in it? I’m curious how a 25mm hood would fit anywhere in that.

Here you go. The foam on the inside cut out could be sanded down all the way out the the Carbon Fiber. So that is where the 25mm dimension is coming from.(You ream the center to fit the rod same foam material in the cutout)
