Old rod restoration

I just ran across a rod that I didn't know i had. It is a "GEP-ROD) with a ring for securing the reel in place. The actual blank is hex shaped steel and has no finish on it at all, cork grip that is broken off at the butt end. I tried by had to loosen the nut that hold the blank in place and no such luck (got weak in my old age). I have been trying to find some information on this rod and its extremely sparse. If you were to restore the blank? Cork grip I believe should not be a huge issue.
The rod does have 2 guides and the tim is there although it was smashed and has lot the ring.

For some reason (most likely my loss of gray matter between my ears I am unable to attach pictures or place them in the photo section.)

any and all information will be greatly appreciated

Mark

Mark,
Hex shaped steel??? I have a couple OLD rods from my Dad (1940s) which are steel (chrome plated) but they are round. I have no clue what you have. Just for your information, they are heavy and fish horribly, but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Good luck!

I have worked on a few of them in the past. Like you said the cork should be no problem. Correct me if I am wrong but the guides should be welded on it. A way I have cleaned up steel rods is to soak them in white vinegar and maybe as long as a couple of days. It should come out pretty good.

Good Luck on this project

This particular the guides are not welded on but wrapped. The blank is not a hex shape but square with rounded corners. I cant insert photos here or I would.

I have an issue with the photo side-cant post pictures or register- Tried this morning to do that very thing and I have yet received the email-and I looked in my spam folder.

I registered for both sides back in 2008 and I have never been able to post pictures since maybe 2010. Life got in the way it seems.
I had Mr. Tom Kirkman try to help me and it could not be resolved. Most likely I am doing something very stupid.

I have looked for an admin link and I am not finding one. I am 100% sure its something i am doing. I am willing to delete my original photo side login and start over but cant accomplish that either as I said.

Thanks to all for your help.

Way back when I was a kid, my dad had some old rods in the garage. One of them was a steel rod, possibly hex shaped, IDK. I remember it had a wooden rear grip, I'm pretty sure it replaced a cork grip that went bad. Many years later I went back looking for that rod and it was gone, unfortunately so was my dad. I can't recall anything about the guides. Mann I wish I had that rod.
