August 16, about 3400 views. August 17, about 3600 views. I guess those 3 or 4 of us have been pretty busy in the last day, coming back to this topic about 200 times. I only confess to about 4.

So you only account for 4 views on this topic? But you have posted to it 48 times? Look at the big picture. Those 3600 views are from maybe two dozen people.

Length is also a static measurement. So is weight. Do they play no role once the rod is in dynamic motion?

We happen to be discussing fishing rod blanks/rods and their static, measurable dimensions. But there are numerous other objects that have intentionally different static dimensions based upon their ultimate user. Think golf club shafts, tennis racket frames, vaulting poles, ice hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, etc. Each of these ‘tools’ are designed with different flexibilities and likely flex points. It is up to the participants in these sports to select the flex that works best with their skill set, individual strength, body weight, and so on. All have static characteristics/dimensions that are designed with someone in mind. It’s up to individuals seeking these tools to learn what works best for them.

Simple example is golf club shafts that are designed with high/medium/low flex points, and in lady/senior/regular/stiff/X-stiff (and custom I’m sure) stiffness's. These descriptions alone usually don’t perfectly match the club shaft to the individual, but they offer a starting point. And from someone who has purchased numerous fly rod blanks over the years, often sight unseen, you don’t always get exactly what you were expecting. Do you stop building fly rods – no.
