As we get closer to ICAST, we will start releasing new products - to the Rodbuilding.org community first, and at the ICAST new product showcase second. (Not the other way around) We want you, the rod builder to see and hear about new products here first.

New Carbon Fiber Reelseats - available right after ICAST. Size 16, weighing sub 10 grams, with a cut away to allow a finger on the blank:

Thanks for looking,

Aleks

Looks great! Are you doing any spinning reel seats? I'd love to see one in the VSS style!

Will these beautiful fit to blank? If so what range of sizes?

If they come in a variety of I.D.'s to match up to blank O.D.'s, "let's shake and bake!" If they only come in 1 I.D. and require an inner sleeve that adds 1-3 additional glue joints and shim material, then I will never say "I love crepes."

There are so many interesting reel seat designs that have been brought to market in recent years that require an inner sleeve completely negating the purpose of the cutouts in the seat.

Are they fitted throughout the entire length?

Lynn,

They are not, the cutout is sized for a 16mm blank (barrel too) the back part of the grip is open and will take a grip with a tenon.

Best,
Aleks

So whatever happened to these? Were they released? I've checked the NFC website, Edge Rods website, Google search...

The Alps MVT casting reel seat is awesome. Beautiful and very comfortable to use. From the first time I used one, it has been the only seat I use on my casting rod builds.

Just a note. If you are considering using one, they are sized at the front of the thread barrel. Not the rear of the seat. So if you are going by blank diameter at the rear of the seat when mounted, order a half size smaller and just ream to fit. That's what I do.

Oh, and sometimes you have to glue in the small decorative sleeve behind the blank contact cut out. So be sure to check for that as well.

Thank you David, I have used the MVT since they were released. They are a great seat, although IMO they could stand to go on a diet

thx for the heads up. good to know. great looking seats and ive heard em described as feeling similar to an ecsm.
the only thing i can see not liking is the overly aggressive knurled metal locking nut, they look great but are they comfortable?

wish there was a kdps style locking barrel that didnt already have cork/metal/eva on it tho.

Matt, they're very comfortable. The way I grip a casting rod is (I'm right handed and use right hand retrieve reels) my entire hand is in front of the trigger, and I completely palm the side of the reel. I don't have overly large hands but I don't have small hands either. For the way I hold the rod, I have never felt the nut on the hood.

And I don't use the locking nut. Just the one that's actually attached to the hood.

Matt the MVT is extremely comfortable and just like David I’ve never taken notice of the nut. I have them on over 50 builds and have never had a complaint
