Need some help finding a Kigan hook keeper like they use on the St Croix rods. I didn't see it on the Hydra website?

Tom,
That is a nice looking hook keeper indeed. If you can't find one, make your own “Norman Miller Hook Keeper”. They are quick and easy to make out of SS or Ti wire, are very attractive as well, are the most functional HK I have seen or used and obviously custom made. They are the only HK I will use anymore. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! BUILDING YOUR OWN SIMPLY ENHANCES THE EXPERIENCE. Re: Kigan hook keeper

I am interested in what Norman has to offer, is there a link or photo available? My email is not blocked.
Thanks John Re: Kigan hook keeper

Hello All.
The article Norman wrote is in volume 21 - issue 1 - page 14 of RodMaker Magazine and gives good instructions to make your own. Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: Kigan hook keeper

I'm not sure why so many seem to think this design is a great keeper. It takes two wraps to secure it and it doesn't function as a drop shot keeper. Open keepers like Normans are much superior Even a single foot wire fly guide makes more sense as a keeper. IMHO. Re: Kigan hook keeper

IMHO. I don't think this is a great hook keeper but it is what my customer ordered. I only had one and I need two. The other thing is this is on a heavy power Frog Rod, it has big hooks and using this style the frog stays in place unlike the drop shot style if the line gets loose. If he were throwing a plastic bait that the hook was in the rubber the drop shot style lets you secure the bait without taking the hook out of it and thus weakening the bait. I have made Norms DS for years but in this case it is not the right keeper. Thanks Re: Kigan hook keeper

An old rod builder I knew used a fly snake guide, works well straight pull removal also. Re: Kigan hook keeper

p.s.
In order to help with line storage as well as minimizing flapping during high speed boating runs try the following. Run your hook down to the line keeper and attach it to the line keeper. Then, grab the middle of the line running from the tip top down to the hook keeper and wrap the line around the rod two or three times, leaving it hooked on the center guide. Easy and quick, but it minimizes line and lure flapping when transporting rods either in a vehicle or in the boat - whether it is on the deck, vertical or in a rod locker. Also, when a lot of rods are close together, it minimizes inter rod line tangling and thus makes for quicker rod and reel removal on the new fishing location, or when emptying the boat or vehicle of gear. American Tackle has some that are similar as well. Three different sizes and four color options.
Rod Builders Warehouse sells SeaGuide products if you go that route. Their link is in the sponsor list. Re: Kigan hook keeper

Norman Miller Keeper fan here!
Low profile. Beautiful design. All you want or need in a simple, high-quality, functional custom component to your build. You can make one to your own exact specifications (larger, smaller, in-between) for a couple bucks each. Enough said for me. Les Re: Kigan hook keeper

If everyone would look at the pic the OP posted you would see that it has 2 wrap points( one on each end) The Kigan in the picture only has 1 wrap point and is a slide in style keeper Re: Kigan hook keeper

Thanks for all the replies.
Ron you are exactly correct. The one on the Hydra website is not a double foot wrapped hook keeper. Thanks Lance and Mike, I ordered several in different sizes from out sponsor Rob Builders Warehouse. Norm good to see your still making those great looking drop shot style keepers !! I appreciate all the input on this project from everyone. Tom Re: Kigan hook keeper

All - yes you’re right. I always think of them as “American Rodbuilders Warehouse” and didn’t see that on the list… Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
