This is a picture of one of my first power heads for a power wrapper that I assembled many years ago.
It is a Dayton right angle motor with a Dayton 5000 rpm universal motor that is similar to the motos used on the Renzetti laths without the right angle drive.
This motor is unique because the brushes are also brought out of the gear case and the correct wiring results in a nice setup with the ability to reverse the motor.
The chuck is a small sherline chuck that fits the adapter shaft that is slipped over the 1/2 inch output motor shaft.

However, this particular chuck does NOT work to hold a rod butt, because it is too small. However, to hold a mandrel or a shank that would adapt it to a different chuck would work out fine.

This using was set aside after a few years of use because I chose to go a different path with respect to power wrapping power.

It is interesting about this motor.
At the time that I purchased the motor - some many years ago, there were many of these motors for sale on @#$%& for $10-$20. Today, I think that I saw one of these motors on @#$%& for $250.

It is actually too bad that they have been discontinued, because - except for the noise of the gear train, they actually made a very good power source for wrapping. They also had the advantage of a reverse system that actually worked very well and was easy to implement.

Also, because of the robust gear train, I suspect that you could do some very serious work with this small motor with its heavy duty gears.

That Dayton motor was sold by the WW Grainger Co. They sold outstanding products as i am sure you are well aware. My good friend and neighbor was with Graninger for over 25 years and he kept me well supplied on all things electrical, including my A/C system for my home. You probably still have one of their giant catalogs, if Granger didn't have it ,you didn't need it !!
