I also use braid, however I learned a little trick at ICRBE. I replaced my bead with a small piece of bright yarn. Yarn makes it visible when I drop it on the floor but doesn't add so much weight that my pull through wraps its self. Thanks Billy! I told you I'd try it. You were right. I ditched the bead.

I just use the fluorescent yellow braid. Easy to see, plus I tie up a bunch of them and keep several around when I’m wrapping.

With respect to the bead on the pull loop.

With a small bright bead on the pull loop, you don't need to bother putting a finger in the pull loop, to pull the thread through. Just grab the loop, as you also grasp the bead. The bead will give you plenty of grip to easily pull the loop through without having to put your finger through the loop. Plus the bright pink bead makes the loop so easy to see, no matter where the loop may have drifted to on the bench or on the floor. I also have the knot that holds the loop together around the bead, so there is no issue to have a clean loop with no knot being used to pull the thread through.

I use name-brand double-edge razor blades, break them in half longways, and fold a strip of masking tape over the broken edge(s). I press the flat of the half-blade tightly against the wraps/blank and parallel to the blank, pull on the tag-end of the wrapping thread to stretch it, and while maintaining thread tension and pressing the flat of the blade parallel to the blank and tightly against the wrappings I pull (unwind) the thread slowly an eighth of an inch or so backward into to the taut thread. The elasticity of the thread will cause it to contract when the tension is removed, and the thread's elasticity will pull the cut end back, under the wrapping. Don't pull the thread too hard or part of the thread will break rather than cut - leaving a "fuzzy" end.

Double edge blades are meant for Shaving for thr most part. Try shaving with a single edge blade. Feather blades are exceptionally sharp compared to other double edge blades.

I use double edge razors and love them.
