Euro Rod Guide Size & Placement

Hello all. First time on the forum. Getting ready to build my first Euro nymph rod- 10’6” 3wt CTS blank. Saw a couple of threads on number of guides and spacing but cannot locate any Euro-specific charts. Also curious about guide SIZES for a Euro rod. Any feedback on sizes and spacing is appreciated. Thanks!

3 sizes of guides. Start with a #10 stripper, then a couple of #2’s rest 1/0’s with a small loop tip top.
11 or 12 guides total. I’ve used 11 plenty of times on that same blank. I just use a general placement chart, then Static load the blank and adjust the guides up or down so you get the fly line to follow the curve of the blank.

You’ll probably get several opinions on this, just keep in mind to use the least amount of guide sizes, 3 is best, 4 is also okay and either will not effect the performance all that much. Also use the smallest ring sizes that will pass your line connections for the final guide size.

I personally like snake guides, but others in the Euro world love single foots, again opinions will vary, either will work. Along with using the smallest guide size, use light weight guides, your ultimate goal is having a sensitive rod and any additional weight added will defeat the purpose of that build.

If you plan to Fish with only nylon (no fly line) or with à Euro Nymph Line, take care of stripper position (should be placed nearer the grip to avoid line slag).

I will use 12 to 13 guide (plus top).

To avoid line twist on tip it could be a good idea to use one or two snake (instead of single leg guide) just before top.

What distance from the end of the cork grip do you usually place the first stripping guide?
