Steven, you didn't miss much, a l -o -n -g - video, excruciatingly long, without simply offering good pics of the winner. We hope more to come more efficiently presented. Re: The Winner is....

I’m sure Kevin will get it on YouTube soon enough…. Folks don’t seem to give any credit to all the work it takes behind the scenes to put any of this kind of stuff together & produce it. As they did last year I’m sure we’ll be seeing pics published
The winning rod was indeed beautiful and I’m sure extremely functional. It certainly stuck me as being soulful ???? Re: The Winner is....

Just some feedback - the initial posting on Facebook only was disappointing as I can't access Facebook from work. Get home, remember to check, and yes, it was not that well put together. Super long intro (2+ mins before anything actually started, which made me wonder if it was working?) and waaayyyy too long of a video for what it was.
Not a complaint so much, but offer feedback for what its worth. I've put together better videos on my iPhone. Re: The Winner is....

Was there any actual fishing done in the judging process, or are these just well done, finely crafted pieces of folk art that look like fishing rods?
Oooh, whoops... Did I just say that out loud? (Laugh) Re: The Winner is....

A fair question, Joel, but you probably won't get any responses. In fairness, many rod-building contests should be "looking rod" contests rather than "fishing rod" contests, since nobody bothers to actually cast the rods to see how they perform. Beautifully decorated and ornamented rods are more works of folk art than they are fishing tools, and "A thing of beauty is a joy forever" - but how does it work? Re: The Winner is....

I'm afraid your "argumentum ad populum" is, at the very least, a faint rhetorical ripple. In all fairness, American Tackle issued several different blanks for the builders to build on. Where they test casted? I'm not 100% sure. But, as a builder myself, I can assure you that I can build a rod that will perform well without testing it. How can I do this? Phil...today in the modern word...we are literally standing on the shoulders of giants. RBO has a vast archive of setups. Many, many published white papers on guide setup from various vendors and builders. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
