Voodoo Dust can be really nice over wraps

I bought some regular Fuji Ultra Poly thread in maroon and it wetted out a little lighter in color than what I wanted. I was ordering a blank and guides from Voodoo Rods and thought I’d include a jar of their Voodoo Dust marbling pigment as a virtually weightless way to darken the Ultra Poly. I chose “metallic amethyst”. The effect was really striking. The threads are still visible and the border of the finish shows mostly the color of the raw carbon blank. Nice depth is present. This is such a great way to add a little custom pop with any impairment to function and sensitivity. In fact, it should make any yellowing of the finish less noticeable.

I used 10ml of Gen4 and one level load of the minuscule scoop provided. Half that amount would probably have sufficed, which would be far less than a “BB” sized sphere of pigment. The vast majority of the 10ml of finish was for the sake of mixing accuracy and interpreting results with a new to me method. It setup in the foil tin and was never applied to the rod. Thus, the amount of dust actually on the rod is likely akin to what would stick the bottom 1/4 inch of a toothpick. Casey recommended doing this over “NCP” thread, but it also looked great over my untreated thread. With dozens of colors of Voodoo Dust available, the permutations with the number of thread colors sold is enormous.

Thanks for the "review." Nice to get first hand experience at this level of detail.

Kendall

Does the powder pigment actually dissolve into the epoxy...say like Testers or Tap pigments would?
Or does is just add the colored powder...much like just adding glitter would do?

I have seen the powders on MudHole and have wondered how it works.
I do have a pearl powder that I use on lures (mixed with epoxy) and it seems to work the same way you describe:
it only takes just a tiny bit and it seems to settle in the mix.

It doesn’t appear to “melt” into the epoxy. You can see the solids. The powder is really fine, however. You don’t get the 1970’s “speed boat” look with flakes and glitter. I’ll try to figure out picture posting. The lure Chris posted looks spot on for effect.

I have never been able to successfully join the photo group. I get an invalid address or password message on login attempts and “name already in use” when trying to register. Maybe Tom can do something.
