Hi guys, for a newbie, and by hand, are there pros or cons wrapping guides with the thread coming up from the bottom while rotating the blank away from you or down from the top rotating the blank towards you ?? Is it just preference? Re: guide wrap

Just preference.
I have done it both ways. Under with the crb thread tensioner and over with the Alps thread carriage. As long as the thread feeds from my side of the blank I am happy. It is easier for me personally to start wraps in that manner. A.P. Re: guide wrap

Mychael,
Wrapping direction is basically personal preference and once one gets accustomed to wrapping in a certain direction, it is very difficult to change. Your hand wrapping set-up should be fairly easy to set-up for either direction = try out both of them. I prefer wrapping from low and infront to over the top and back. It just seems more natural and precise when adding and dropping threads and I do not have to lift my hands and arms as high. With some of my guide wraps requiring an hour, less fatigue is very welcomed. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! It is personal choice. I much prefer turning the rod toward me with the thread coming from behind the rod and over the top. I find this to be quite natural and precise. Bottom line is ‘to each their own, do it the way you like’.

Same as Norm since 1980, only natural way for me. If I'm doing a tiger wrap (3 threads side by side) this may change. Re: guide wrap

Definitely a personal preference thing. I am the opposite of Norman. I turn the rod away from me, with the thread coming up from the bottom, and between the blank and myself.
It's the way I've always done it. Re: guide wrap

As you can see, there is NO one way. Re: guide wrap

It's like mixing finish, whatever way works for you is the right way! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
