Is there a source of tiptops with long tubes for vintage casting and spinning rod rebuilds?

I've been rebuilding old fiberglass spincast, casting, and spinning rods. Most modern tiptops have short tubes, compared with the ones I'm replacing. I'd love to match the look of the older tiptops (and long tubes would also help cover damage where some of the original tiptops were crimped). I'm rebuilding light action rods. Tube diameters for the tiptops I'm replacing are usually in the range from 5/64 to 7/64 inch (2 mm - 2.8 mm), with size 6 or 8 mm rings. The tube bore lengths of the old tiptops usually range from 0.75 - 1 inch (19-25 mm). Has anyone encountered and solved this problem?
Best wishes. Mitch Re: Is there a source of tiptops with long tubes for vintage casting and spinning rod rebuilds?

I recently used one of these and while it doesn't match all your criteria, it did have a fairly long tube by today's standards. Give them a call, they may be able to help. [mudhole.com] Re: Is there a source of tiptops with long tubes for vintage casting and spinning rod rebuilds?

Lynn,
Thanks for the recommendation. I have used that model before, and unfortunately the tubes are short, compared with vintage tiptops. Thanks again. Mitch Re: Is there a source of tiptops with long tubes for vintage casting and spinning rod rebuilds?

Mitch,
I have rebuilt a lot of old rods. My solution for your problem is to completely strip the rod. Throw away the guides and tip tops and purchase new modern guides and tip top. I know it is not the answer you are looking for, but I also know that the rebuilt rods all worked much better with the modern hardware compared to the former parts. Why not just do a trim wrap behind the tube of the tip? If your just replacing the tip wrap with a color that matches the tube. Redoing the whole rod, do a trim wrap the color of the rest of the guides. Or just do a color that matches the blank. Will cover any damage and from a casual glance will look just fine. Thanks, everyone for your responses. I was able to locate some never-used old-stock tiptops on the online @#$%& site. These are the old style spinning/casting tiptops with long tubes. Still not sure there is a consistent source for these. It is possible they may just show up from time to time.

I wouldn't expect a consistent source. Nice you found some. A word you have used in your post has been banned from use. Please use a different word or contact the forum administrators.
